Personality, Temperament, and Gender
Identity, temperament, and personality are all important aspects in growth and development of a person. Erik Erikson’s is a well-known Psychologist who came up with the Psychosocial Theory which discusses this type of development. According to his theory, development of identity occurs through a series of stages, starting from birth, where each consists of a particular set of goals, concerns, accomplishments, and dangers (Woolfolke et. Al, 2012). These stages are interdependent of each other or in other words, each stage must be passed to move onto the next one. Erikson believes that the way a person handles each situation influences the person’s ‘self-image and view of society’ (Woolfolke et. Al, 2012).
As your child moves from one stage to the next, you should encourage them to accomplish the goal of that particular stage as it will have a lasting positive impact on their self-esteem and it will lead to a smoother transition into their next developmental stage (Woolfolke et. Al, 2012).
